La Jette (1962) --------------- The Jetty, black and white, French with subtitles One of my favorite films, this film is allegedly the basis for 12 Monkeys (Brad Pitt). The earth is toast after a nuclear blast. Scientists are trying to find a man who they can send back in time. They know that time travel is tied into dreams and memory. Also that people who are the best travelers are unstable since they blur the lines between reality/the past/the present/ and dreams. On the plus side, these people are flexible, however they are very fragile and are utterly crushed from stress when they go over the line. The medical team seems merciless since numerous people have lost their sanity trying to get back to save the human race. One man is selected on the basis of a very strong memory from his childhood on the Jetty at Orly airport. The film is done in still-montage sequence and is really very haunting and well done. Many people enjoy mocking the film because of the French narrator and typical French "sad clown of fate and life" poignant ending to the flick. Either way, it is a good flick and strong sci fi. more info at: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0056119
