Porn Star, the Legend of Ron Jeremy (2001) ------------------------------------------ wood, on the bone-a-rama scale Had to check out this documentary since am a fan of early Ron Jeremy porn (pre-hedgehog days). This is a solid film featuring interviews with friends, family, porn moguls including Larry Flynt, and porn stars such as Seymore Butts (Poetic Just-Ass, Knocking on Heaven's Backdoor) and Anita Cannibal (Devil in Miss Jones 6, Big Fat F.N. Tits) and fans who appreciate Ron's pizza-parlor-owner appeal. It features stock footage clips as well as sequences of his day-to-day life. The film chronicles the career of the most prolific (heterosexual) porn star from his start up to today. It has interesting insight into the man who has slept with 2000 women and gotten paid handsomely for it. It describes his desire to be a serious actor sublimated in the reality of porn and cheesy cameos. The fun begins with Ron's girlfriend (without his knowledge), submitting a nude picture of him to Playgirl and it being published with several side effects. One, his father telling him never to use the family name associated with his naked body again (his real name is Ron Jeremy Hyatt). Second, the porn industry pursuing him (really his 9.75 inch twanger). We learn of his intense cheapness (even though he is the richest man in the business). He only flies coach, uses garbage bags as luggage, wears clothing purchased from thrift stores two decades ago, and never picks up a check. He claims he is saving money for the future and hopes to some day meet a nice woman and have a family (he is 49 years old). His most serious romantic relationship was with a fellow porn star chick who got religion and wigged out, declaring the porn industry to be Evil. This interspliced with footage of him going to get his monthly HIV test. We learn of his sense of humor and of his excessive living (he eats whatever/whenever he wants and never exercises). This interspliced with him and others describing his profound ejaculation control and cunnilinguistic skill. Incredibly, in one film, he serviced 14 women over a span of four hours. He describes how he is able to control the precise timing of his ejaculation and his fellow porn stars describe how he "backs off" by thinking about disgusting things. He also shuns the use of Viagra saying that it becomes a habit, so that you end up feeling like you need it in order to perform instead of relying on your own capabilities, which is a worthy point. We see Ron as essentially a basically nice lonely guy, navigating the shallow Hollywood scene with a greater purpose- to break into the 'real' acting world. He will do ANYTHING related to acting; once he flew to Paris to shoot 'Killing Zoe', where he appeared on screen for less than 2 seconds before being "killed". He will play any role and go to any party event to network with people and be the center of attention. He has always seen porn as the easiest way to pay the bills in the highly competitive world of acting. He is hurt when 'real' film producers snub him for his porn background. Viewers feel sorry for the guy since they suspect that he will never succeed, but they don't feel too sorry for him since he is highly sucessful and people are always wanting what they can't have. This is a many-faceted film. Check it out if you are into porn or documentaries. Ron Jeremy has been dubbed an engima of modern culture and this film is apt.
