Original Sin (2001) ------------ Lead me into temptation, Antonio! A cheesy tagline for an interesting flick. It mainly chronicles the utter deterioration of a man at the hands of so-called "love", though in fact, everyone in this flick is in serious emotional bondage. A businessman who mail-orders a bride doesn't really bargain for becoming addicted to a chick who is a major psycho-kitty. Yow, this chick, played by Angelina Jolie is totally hot, but is deeply involved in weird ways with her ego, sick and cruel people from her sick and cruel past, and her sick and cruel self. It's all about her as she dreams of being a wife and mother while snapping the neck of a caged bird who is competing with her beautiful music . She doesn't have the balls to get rid of a sick and cruel man from her past but has no problem about killing homely women (and birds! :-)..) to achieve her selfish ends. It is tough to see Antonio in a total pussy-whipped state, abasing himself, whining, and submitting to what he believes is "love". Although he is pretty ballsy in some parts, he is utterly weak when it comes to letting go of this woman and getting his shit back together. Hint: A post-breakup rampage with prostitutes and booze is not really a sincere effort, and tends to make catholics feel worse afterward from the guilt hangover (though I can see the draw). On the plus side, we are treated to a steamy love scene and Antonio's nude buttocks. People were shifting in their seats (especially men re-adjusting) and were clearing their throats while reaching for their pepsi. One senior citizen was heard to say, "well, they really don't leave ANYTHING to the imagination these days". Also, the soundtrack featuring lazy Cuban songs is good. 'You can't deny love' is the ending line of this film. You also can't deny that many people are weak emotional slaves and addicts, or that some part of them is, and that this flick is a look in the mirror that people may find too hard. Everyone who is addicted to anything (chicks, men, cigarettes, booze, computer games, anime) should check this out. Also the rape scenes are harsh, though appropriate for the film. Obviously, they named this film 'Original Sin' since the chick pulls the man into her sin like Eve pulls Adam into biting the apple. Of course, if you want to buy either of these stories, you will have to admit that either of these men could have exercised their Free Will by saying 'no' at any time, and that men are essentially just a bunch of pussy-whipped entities. (You will also have to buy that people with Free Will would gladly leave some rock unturned as they explore their universe, never questioning authority). I don't know if people in the movie theatre necessarily buy that men are a bunch of pussies, or if they do buy it, that they really want to see the pussy-whipping of a man. This thing is already in the $2 show.
