Drunken Master 1998, Sue Blair Video pick: ----------- Drunken Master, featuring Jackie Chan. genre: martial arts bone-a-rama rating: raging boner Chinese with dubbed English, some profanity, regurgitation, no nudity (bummer) Action-packed, neatly-choreographed kung-fu. The Drunken Master teaches Jackie Chan his drunken style, featuring several drunken katas. The strength of the style involves appearing to be vulnerable. --- From david fred: This is the first of Chan's two Drunken Master films. The first film is good and quite funny, as noted, but it was done early in his career and suffers from a fairly low budget and comparatively primitive camera and stunt work. I would highly recommend Drunken Master II, especially if you liked the first one. However, for those of you not familiar with Jackie Chan films you need to be ready to embrace the over-the-top action sequences and sometimes cheesy plots. Other JC picks are: "Project A" (both parts I and II) and "Armour of God." The famous "Harold Lloyd on steroids" clock tower stunt occurs in the first Project A. The book "Sex and Zen & A Bullet in the Head" by Stefan Hammond and Mike Wilkins (Fireside, 1996) is an excellent English-language resource for those interested in HK film. David
